Unwind does not collect your data. There is no account, no server, and no analytics. Your recordings and transcripts are stored on your iPhone and are never transmitted anywhere, not to the developer and not to anyone else.

What Unwind stores, and where

When you record an entry, Unwind saves two things on your device: the audio file, and the text transcribed from it. Both are written to Unwind's private storage area inside the app's container on your iPhone, protected by iOS data protection so they are unreadable while your device is locked.

Nothing is copied off the device by the app. There is no cloud sync, no CloudKit database, and no backup service operated by the developer.

Microphone

Unwind requests microphone access so you can record entries. Audio is captured only while a recording is in progress, which you start and stop yourself, and it is written directly to a file on your device. Recording continues if you lock your screen or switch apps during an entry, so a thought isn't cut off mid-sentence; it stops when you stop it.

Transcription

Speech is turned into text by Apple's on-device speech recognition, running locally on your iPhone. Your audio is not sent to the developer or to any third party for transcription.

Apple's speech model is a system component that iOS downloads once, from Apple, the first time it is needed. That download fetches the model to your device; it does not send your recordings anywhere. It is handled by iOS itself and is governed by Apple's privacy policy. After it completes, transcription works entirely offline.

Titles, clean-up, and summaries

Unwind can suggest a title for an entry, rewrite a transcript to remove filler words, and condense an entry into bullet points. These use Apple Intelligence's on-device language model. The text stays on your iPhone throughout; it is not sent to a server for processing.

Face ID

You can lock Unwind behind Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode. This uses Apple's LocalAuthentication framework, which tells the app only whether authentication succeeded or failed. Unwind never receives, sees, or stores your biometric data, which never leaves the Secure Enclave on your device.

Network use

Unwind contains no networking code. It makes no network requests, opens no connections, and has no server to talk to.

The app does check whether your device currently has an internet connection, so it can tell you whether the one-time speech model download can proceed. This check reads your device's local network status only. It sends and receives nothing.

Analytics, advertising, and third parties

There are none. Unwind contains no analytics SDK, no crash reporting service, no advertising, and no third-party libraries of any kind. Nobody is told that you opened the app, how often you use it, or what you recorded.

The Unwind website (tryunwind.app) uses Vercel Web Analytics to count visits in aggregate: pages viewed, the site a visitor arrived from, and coarse location by country. It sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, does not track you across other sites, and cannot identify you personally. None of this involves the app, which remains free of analytics entirely.

Device backups

If you back up your iPhone to iCloud or to a computer, your entries may be included in that backup, in the same way as other apps' data. Those backups are made and encrypted by Apple under your own Apple Account, not by Unwind or its developer, and are covered by Apple's privacy policy. You can exclude Unwind from iCloud backups in Settings › Apple Account › iCloud › Manage Storage › Backups.

Deleting your entries

Deleting an entry moves it to Recently Deleted, where it stays for 30 days so you can restore it if you change your mind. You can delete it permanently before then from that screen. Permanent deletion removes both the entry and its audio recording from your device.

Deleting the Unwind app removes all of its entries and recordings from your iPhone. Because the developer never holds a copy, there is nothing to request, export, or ask to be erased. Deleting it on your device is the whole of it.

Children

Unwind does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date. If a future version of the app ever collects or transmits data, that change will be described here before it takes effect.
